In the context of UVTN, a GPS device is not just a convenience. The law provides that a company must prove that a vehicle is used for business purposes by maintaining trip records, and these records must be kept using a route control system. Under the law, a route control system is considered to be a device that receives GPS satellite signals and determines the vehicle’s coordinates in real time and location.
This means that for a company wishing to obtain a UVTN exemption for a vehicle used for work, a declaration alone is not enough. The law also requires verifiable records. These records must include the vehicle registration number, make, model, and maximum engine power, the route of the trip, the date, the start and end time, as well as the odometer reading on the first and last day of the month.
In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers regulations on route control systems provide that the system must be able to record the actual route driven each day, including the start, end, and stop points together with their coordinates in time, a graphical representation of the route, the kilometres driven, and information on how often and for how long no GPS signal was received. This means that a GPS solution for UVTN purposes must not be merely formal, but must serve as a practically usable source of evidence.
GPS helps not only in applying for a UVTN exemption, but also in maintaining proper and verifiable records. This reduces the risk of disputes with VID and at the same time makes fleet management much more transparent.
